This month, Michelle Argyle at Melissa Williams Design reimagines the cover of That Night, by indie author Cecily Wolfe, who says she was “thrilled” with the new cover and described it as “a perfect fit.”

Design Note #1: Unlike in the original, I made the title and author name stand out and reflect the same colors and shadows as the image.

Design Note #2: Sometimes you don’t want images perfectly centered. The image here is off-center enough that it creates an edgy, uncomfortable feel. This is perfect for the book’s gritty subject matter.

Design Note #3: Using a hand-written font gives the cover an almost vulnerable feeling; it lets readers know that this will be an intense story that is told in a personal way.

Design Note #4: To indicate that this is a YA book, I chose an image of a teenage girl. But I made sure it was a photo that grabs the reader’s attention.
