Chris Woolf’s passion is seeking the truth, whether in journalism, history or genealogy.
He enjoys analyzing and explaining international relations, historical issues, foreign policy, defense issues, military operations, strategic thinking, and also demography, ethnography and archaeology.
For 34 years, until 2020, he was a broadcast journalist with the BBC World Service. He worked in London, Afghanistan, Malawi and Mozambique. From 1998 onward, he was based in the United States (Boston), where he became News Editor for the station’s international news show, “The World”, co-produced with WGBH and PRX (Public Radio Exchange). He was also on-air for many years as the show’s “History Guy”.
Among his proudest accomplishments at BBC World Service was helping to develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols for foreign correspondents.
Before he began his broadcast career, Woolf served in the UK’s Territorial Army as an infantry soldier during the Cold War.
In addition to writing, he is Chief Operating Officer of a professional voiceover company, The Voice Depot.
He holds a BA/MA in history from the University of Cambridge, Queens College. He lives in the U.S. near Boston with his wife Lynn and has two grown children.
