Daniel James was born in Cornwall, raised on the Channel Island of Guernsey and relocated to New Zealand as a teenager in the sixties.
Growing up on the island of Guernsey in the post-WW2 years, alongside children whose parents had suffered through the German Occupation, and playing in the unguarded and accessible gun-emplacements and concrete bunkers instilled a life-long interest in WW2 history.
The concept of returning to childhood locales of happy nostalgic memories, coupled with explorative visits to numerous historical WW2 locations and structures has been a strong impetus for this book. The result is an exciting blend of autobiographical experience and a pastime delving into history.
Daniel lives in New Zealand on the rural fringes of Auckland City with his wife in a home surrounded by native bush.
Operation Traction is his debut novel.
