Diana still has the copy of MADELINE awarded to her in the second grade. Reading Period was always her favorite part of the school day, and spelling bees, which she usually won unless Frankie Doetsch was present that day. In that case, they were the last two standing, and if she was on her game, Diana won.
At fifty, Diana dropped everything to follow her lifelong dream. Writing ideas tugged at her sleeve nonstop, and would not be silenced. "Come on, pay attention to us!"
She began with poems, mini-essays, and human interest stories published in Northwest Prime Time Magazine as well as online journals.
For Wishes Are Free, Diana drew on her experiences growing up in the Santa Clara Valley south of San Francisco. It was known as the Valley of Heart's Delight and now we know it as Silicon Valley.
Wishes Are Free began as short stories she read aloud to her next-door neighbor, April, who is intellecutally challenged. April loved them and Diana thought I may have something here. More stories were added and the universally praised children's novel, Wishes Are Free was born.
