Edwin Fontánez is an extraordinary talent—an accomplished award-winning fine artist, author, illustrator, and designer. He was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico and grew up in Corozal, where his family still resides. Fontánez attended the Lucchetti Fine Arts School in San Juan and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the School of Plastic Arts of the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture. He also acquired an Associate Degree in Communications Design from the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York City. Fontánez’s visionary style has led him through a long and distinguished professional career that extends from fine art, literature, and design to creative consulting. Fontánez has excelled as a children’s author for more than two decades. Among his most popular published works are Aroma de azucenas (2021 International Latino Book Awards Honorable Mention—Best YA Novel, Spanish), El bosque iluminado (2017 International Latino Book Awards Finalist—Best YA Novel, Spanish; Best Cover Design), The Illuminated Forest (2015 International Latino Book Awards Finalist—Best YA Novel, English), and On This Beautiful Island (2006 Foreword Book of the Year Finalist), along with other books exploring the culture of Puerto Rico in English and Spanish.
