I believes that a sense of time and place is crucial to a novel. Born in a Yorkshire village from a line of miners and steelworkers I gained a PhD from the London Institute of Archaeology, specializing in Roman pottery and working on various excavations and shipwreck projects in Europe.
From then my career has taken unexpected twists including spells as an anti-money laundering specialist, bank director and ultimately Director of Guernsey Museums. All this has provided plenty of inspiration for writing mysteries and investigating the secrets of the past.
Before I delved into the dark world of 1930s thrillers, archaeology provided the background for my five Jeffrey Flint archaeological mysteries. I'm also the author of a historical novel, archaeological textbooks and non-fiction books about history of the British Channel Islands.
Between writing projects and leading excavations on the island of Alderney, I love to travel. I like nothing better than hitting the open road in a Jeep with the top open and a Country and Western soundtrack playing.
