Jay Heinrichs wrote the New York Times bestseller THANK YOU FOR ARGUING: WHAT ARISTOTLE, LINCOLN, AND HOMER SIMPSON CAN TEACH US ABOUT THE ART OF PERSUASION (Crown/Three Rivers Press), a book on rhetoric. Published in 14 languages and four editions, it has more than 500,000 copies in print. He has written two more books on rhetoric, WORD HERO (Crown/Three Rivers Press) and HOW TO ARGUE WITH A CAT (Rodale Books/Penguin Random House). Jay has given talks and presentations around the world, from Harvard to the London Palladium to the studios of the online course company Creative Live.
Earlier in his career, Jay served as an editorial director at Rodale, supervised a dozen magazines and worked as deputy editor of Outside. He has also served as editor in chief of Southwest: The Magazine for Southwest Airlines; Attaché, the magazine of US Airways; and the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, where he twice won Newsweek’s Sibley award for best magazine in higher education.
He has published more than 500 articles in places ranging from the New York Times to the Huffington Post. He runs the popular language website ArgueLab.com.
Jay lives in New Hampshire with his wife, Dorothy Behlen Heinrichs, director of Patient and Family Giving at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
