Laurie Berkshire’s love of language and all its possibilities inspired her to begin reading early in life. Spending every Saturday morning at her local library, Laurie was fortunate to have children’s librarian Miss Gray in her life helping her navigate the shelves of books and further reinforcing her love of well written stories.
The angst poetry of a shy teenager followed, along with caption writing for her high school yearbook. A new chapter in life as a college freshman at Purdue University offered new opportunities for freelance journalism, and an early career in public relations led to writing awards.
A shift to non-profit administration included successful 18-month stint writing a weekly newspaper. After a career working on behalf of families and children and a lifetime of observing the human condition, Laurie felt ready to write her first novel mirroring all that she loves about the best books she has ever read.
Born in Highland Park, a lake shore Chicago suburb, her family moved to Indianapolis when she was two years old. Returning to her birthplace each summer to visit her beloved aunt, together they explored the city’s art, architecture and culture.
Now retired, living in Yorktown, IN, married, and mom to two grown daughters and two adorable dogs, she enjoys rousing sense of humor and creative outlets including her writing, crafting and cooking. The cherished times of love and laughter spent with her best friend of 34 years keeps her grounded and living her best life.
