Richard is a veteran of the US Army and served on active duty from 1989 – 1995. Richard has extensive research in goal-setting where he learned the importance of teaching a proper goal-setting methodology: "The Effects of Goal Setting in a Developmental Algebra Course." His doctoral dissertation is titled "Overcoming failure - Characteristics of leaders who have successfully recovered from a significant setback." He learned so much about how people react to failure and how resilience manifests through coping and adaptational mechanisms.
