Stephen Shaiken practiced criminal law for more than thirty- ve
years, the rst four in Brooklyn, and the rest in San Francisco. He is a
graduate of Queens College and Brooklyn Law School and earned a
MA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University before
starting his legal studies. He and his wife, Josie, are residents of Tampa,
Florida.
Stephen lived in Bangkok, ailand, for several years and has authored
four novels in the acclaimed NJA Club Series, best described as exotic
noir thrillers. e four novels-Bangkok Shadows, Bangkok Whispers,
Bangkok Blues, and Bangkok Changes -feature American expat lawyer
Glenn Murray Cohen and his eclectic friends from Bangkok’s
mysterious NJA Club as they face intrigue and danger.
Stephen recently published Queensborough Rock - a di erent kind of
novel, set in New York City in the late sixties and early seventies. e
protagonist is a young rock and roll manager struggling to break out of
the second-tier Queens rock scene into the glamor and stardom of
Manhattan. e novel was loosely inspired by Stephen’s brief career as
a rock manager in 1970-71.
When he isn’t writing, Stephen enjoys travel, gardening, yoga, guitar,
and following politics and current events with a passion. He’s a
voracious reader of ction and non ction in too many genres and
subjects to list. Stephen and Josie just adopted a greyhound rescue dog
named Ginger.
