After narrating the Holy Bible, he was hooked. He couldn't take his mind off trying to turn minds back toward the one true God. He was born in the South and raised there. His experiences as a Black man in the American South equipped him with the understanding he needed to navigate the rocky racial terrain with which all southerners are familiar. That upbringing pockmarked with periodic stresses related to his environment left him well learned in the fine art of getting along. Now his background informs his thinking--and his writing. His age, background, where he was raised, his recent turn toward spirituality, and his disposition which has always been described as 'unconcerned', all combine to make him a compelling personality and one who most definitely deserves to be listened to when speaking.
