Shapeshifter August Shade heads to rural Minnesota to repo a baby spoon for a hag from her sister. Their feud puts August in the crosshairs of a loan-sharking coblyn. At the same time, August is trying to repo a corn dolly from a scarecrow for a cornflower wraith. The two cases intertwine and lead August into a conspiracy in which reptilians are using GMO crops to alter human DNA and turn them into alien baby factories. August is saved by a member of a powerful paranormal organization called The Northern Quorum, and learns that his best friend has become a warlock.
