Against All Odds: A Desperate Plea for Human Connection
Carola Hauer PHD, author
the book addresses the often misunderstood long-term consequences of "complex trauma", which is trauma that occurred between the ages of 0 - 18. New insights into the phenomenon that is perhaps better understood these days by clinicians and professionals working in mental health, but it is still not very well understood by the survivors themselves as well as their supporters, by first responders and or law enforcement, as well as by significant parts of the medical community, the department of social services, and the law community. The book is using human experiences and psychoeducation to hopefully help close that gap which can unfortunately lead to unnecessary re-traumatization of survivors and or traumatization of innocent bystanders. Most of all it is a plea for human connection which allows for corrective experiences to occur, which will be most helpful to the healing process of complex trauma survivors, who often suffer long after their original trauma has subsided, and makes them carry a heavy burden way into their adult years.
Furthermore, it draws attention to the fact that Adverse Childhood Experiences are unfortunately not a "thing of the past" and the book tries to raise awareness and draw attention to this tragic epidemic, which has such overwhelming and long ranging consequences.
