"Part of a sensational murder series, Arrowed (Resort to Murder: Book 4) by Avery Daniels is a delightful amateur sleuth mystery. It is engaging from its intriguing introduction until its thrilling conclusion. Tenacious and irrepressible, Julienne's character is likable as well as relatable. I especially loved the character contrast between Julienne and her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend, Tiffany. Tiffany makes a fabulous antagonist and is a perfect foil for Julienne. Their friction and ambivalence enhance the storyline with a juicy bit of tension and conflict. I was very impressed with the development of the characters. Each one is a strand in an elegant tapestry, and their varying personalities and roles strengthen the weave of the storyline. Even in absentia, the General, Mason's father's presence is felt without disrupting the flow and enhances the storyline. It is a superb murder mystery that will delight those who love cozy mysteries with a hint of the paranormal and solved by a feisty female protagonist."

It all began when a dying man with an arrow in his chest grabs her ankle.
During a heat wave at a Santa Fe resort, Julienne has the resort owner pressuring her to solve the murder. The victim is a high profile business man who made enemies rather than friends, leaving Julienne with a roster of suspects. She was supposed to be training the staff and spending quality time with Mason rather than investigating a murder. The heat turns up when an old girlfriend of Mason's checks in and is determined to get back together.

In Daniels’s pleasant fourth mystery featuring Julienne LaMere, a resort manager-in-training (after 2018’s Spiked), Julienne’s boss sends her to a wellness resort he recently purchased near Santa Fe, N.Mex., to train the staff. Her hunky boyfriend, Mason Sheridan, a professional photographer, accompanies her, but their hopes for a romantic getaway are dashed by a murder. While she and Mason are making out on a pathway next to the resort lounge, her ankle is clutched by Merritt Howell, the head of a corporation holding an executive retreat at the resort, who has been shot in the chest with an arrow. Just before dying, Howell proclaims, “It’s the curse. I can’t believe it, the curse got me.” Julienne later learns he was referring to a “local legend of a vengeful brave,” and that an arrow matching the murder weapon on display in the resort library has vanished. Julienne’s success at crime solving leads her to be assigned to assist the police in nailing the killer. Daniels gently pokes fun at genre tropes, while making her characters feel real. Jessica Fletcher fans will welcome more of Julienne. (Self-published)
