All roads lead to Granada, the priceless jewel of Andalucia. Nestling under the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada and dominating this historic city, is the Alhambra Palace, one of the wonders of the world. When Anne Pennington, the mistress of a US Senator was exiled from Washington DC, she chose this beautiful place as her new home. He was paying, so she didn’t stint. Her favorite pastime was collecting paintings, particularly those by Pablo Picasso. Her house was just below the palace and included its own art gallery for her to relish her treasures. After her lover passed, she married and decided to show her collection of the famous painter’s muses to the world. Unbeknown to her, one of these artworks was top of the bucket list of an evil criminal who had been leading the veteran DI Prado, with translators Amanda and Phillip, a merry dance all over Andalucía. The now elderly man was the motivating force for a gang of criminals held behind bars from Prado's previous cases in Málaga, Ronda, and Vélez-Málaga. The gang desperately needed to find the old man and exact their revenge before he died. In this fourth book of the Andalusian Mystery Series, Prado sets out to entrap him and the final member of the gang. Anne’s paintings would be the bait.
The BookViral Review:
The fourth installment in Bradley’s Andalusian Mystery Series, Darkness in Granada completes the Crown case story arc and proves a thrilling climax that is sure to be well-received by his readers.
If a mystery is to be convincing it has to feel utterly plausible, Yet far too many releases in the genre prove disappointing and it’s for this reason that Bradley’s novels stand out. A vivid and insightful writer he has an acerbic eye for the pressures and poignancies of his characters which combined with his ability to craft a sophisticated and intelligent plot rapidly draws his readers in.
Darkness in Granada is no exception and is one of those rare stories you read whilst willing it not to venture where you fear it might ultimately go. It’s thoughtful, atmospheric, and gripping, written by a writer in full command of his talents and on the level of plot alone Darkness in Granada works flawlessly to deliver a genuine page-turner.
Everything Bradley writes is storytelling sinew and it’s rare to find extraneous detail that doesn’t move his narrative forward whilst his key characters DI Prado, Phillip Armitage and Amanda remain as authenticate as they did when first introduced to us with the release of Darkness In Malaga.
With real flair, he continues to get their personalities just right with attention to detail, dialogue, and subtleties of character that make them utterly convincing. He also knows that no matter how good characters are they have to evolve. And in Darkness in Granada, we have the added dynamic of Philip’s son Sasha and the tragic circumstances that see them brought together.
A Tour De Force of intrigue with edgy noir chapters, Bradley once again leads his readers on an unforgettable journey into the heart of darkness to deliver a gripping and highly satisfying read. A five-star mystery novel Darkness in Granada receives our highest recommendation.
