This e-book is about my family life and school experiences in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Despite the conservative culture, I was encouraged to become educated through books, music, films, and TV. As a child, I dreamed of an escape route from a lifetime of poverty and domestic violence. This book describes how I came to the conclusion that a middle-class lifestyle would be possible for me if I moved away and went to college.
