A fun book with some new and interesting facts about places. A great read to learn more about different countries, the lives of their residents, and to become a well rounded person. I enjoyed the illustrations and the flags within the book, they added another layer to make the book more enjoyable.

This is a charming little book that presents brief sketches by children from around the world, describing features of their respective countries and some personal facts about themselves, including what they dream about doing in their futures. Not only is this work crisp and stimulating; it is highly educational as well,. A focused, informative kid-to-kid read that is strongly recommended.

Wow, a great educational book for children, that teaches something but not in a overwhelming fashion, so it doesn’t seem like work. A nice way to introduce your child to how other cultures live, through hearing stories from children who live there. It also suggests a variety of future career choices a child might find interesting, stepping past the same old doctor, lawyer, astronaut, etc... and into fields they may have never thought of, so opening their minds to more opportunities.
I would have loved this book as a child and even found it entertaining as an adult. For a parent who wants to help their child appreciate that even though people may come from different cultures and have different life stories, we all have things that are the same, such as the dreams we aspire to. It’s unifying while appreciating diversity.

‘I am Proud of Who I am: I Hope you are too’ is about the lives of children growing up in various places around the world. The book felt representative of a stack of pen pal letters. The stories are short and focus on a child’s interests and dreams. Min Seokjin from South Korea wants to be a pop star, while Tiwonge from Zambia wants to be a comedian. There is also Adara from Yemen who is already a mother of two at the age of seventeen. This book is a great way for children to recognize commonalities throughout the world, understand the hardships some young people face, and feel confident in who they are and hope to be. I was excited to see that my home state of New Hampshire was included for the US.

This book was a pleasant surprise. I appreciated the author’s nuanced “deep dive” into unique features of life in many different corners of the world. Each narrative and region is presented in a brief couple of pages, almost like a sonnet. Although always better to meet people in real life, sometimes it is not possible to physically visit and immerse oneself in the culture and daily life of so many different people and places. This little book is a nice and thoughtful way to build some small bridges of empathy and understanding under the same shared, starry sky. The pictures and flags are a nice touch. Adding some maps (or one big map at the beginning or end of the book) would provide a great geography lesson, too!
