Learning to be Human
Laurie Ann Butcher, author
Living in the shadows isn’t the safest place to be… it’s where secrets are buried and predators lurk..
As the youngest child living within a dysfunctional family, I thought that anger, rivalry and hatred were the norm, that every family possessed dirty little secrets they hid from the world… like alcohol and drug addiction, mental and physical abuse, depression, schizophrenia and suicide. Surviving those dirty little secrets while running from the school bully was hard, but it was nothing in comparison to coming up on the radar of the neighbourhood paedophile.

Fascinating insight into the turbulent life of the author...really liked the footnotes at the end of each chapter...shows how the lessons and observations learnt help to form our view of the world and shape us into who we become...really interesting read...couldn't put it down!

It always amazes me, when I read this kind of book, how little we know of what goes on behind closed doors….including mine.

The strength and resilience of the writer is amazing. I could not put this book down. Upsetting in parts, but very absorbing, I hope the writer is now leading a happy life.
