A literate 19 yr. old slave in 1830 Georgia attempts to teach other slaves to read the Bible. If he's caught, the punishment is death. Angels help; demons hinder. Eventually, he is caught and hanghed, but his life becomes a brigfht light for all those who are oppressed and hope fpr a better life.
