The Art of Time
Quinn Jamison, author
While on a trip to the city of Rome—nineteen-year-old Lavinia Melrose suddenly finds herself in the past once she reaches for the captivating, displayed painting of a handsome green-eyed man. She descends into a world unimagined for herself as if being haunted by one insistent ghost in an olden hotel wasn’t enough trouble. Lavinia quickly discovers the squire who arrives at her disposal, Armond Alessandro, is the man in the painting; she sees those familiar green eyes and does a double take.
On the hunt for this mysterious painting, Armond begins showing an interest in Lavinia’s own skills, suggesting she paints. Soon, Lavinia makes a connection; she is the artist of that painting of Armond, explaining its seemingly unknown existence. Then, she unintentionally eavesdrops on Bartoli, Armond’s father, who receives a mysterious letter. Lavinia is berated for seeing everything and told not to squeal. She is sucked into the ordeal, still wanting to know what Bartoli is hiding, and realizes the letter is sent from a bad man, Calabrese. Immediately, she wishes she didn’t see the name.
Eventually, Bartoli hears the news that Lavinia is royalty and forces Armond and Lavinia to marry given his appetite for a dowry. Apparently, Lavinia’s ancestor is a Marchese, an Italian Marquess, who claims to be her father. Marriage doesn’t seem so bad, though, considering she already feels close to Armond. So, she reveals her secret to him, then is more driven to stay, happy with his reaction, and unable to deny her feelings any longer. Their relationship builds as their journey continues.
When the war hits, Lavinia undergoes a sudden tragedy—Armond’s death. She thinks her life is ruined, only left with devastation and a part of him, their son. But after returning home to the present at Armond’s request, she uncovers a shocking secret, and years later is hypnotized again, swept through a void of time. Lavinia is left wondering if she could save Armond and prevent his death, for all, it could be possible.
