The Bayou Moon takes the reader from the bawdy, boisterous night life of New Orleans into the dangerous world of the Louisiana bayous as it chronicles the evolution of one Boudreau Clemont (“Peck”) Finch, a poor, young, illiterate Cajun, barely surviving on the bottom rung of society, through a series of astonishing and improbable adventures—some poignant, some violent, some romantic, some hilarious—that ultimately lifts him from the depths of despair and deprivation, to a life of happiness and reward. Peck’s perilous journey of self-discovery earn him many extraordinary friends along the way. There’s old Gabe, a retired army officer whose life he saves; Sasha, a glamorous real-estate agent who loves to dance the night away; her friend Lily Cup, a lawyer, who takes Peck in hand in more ways than one; and Millie, the sweet and innocent girl he meets on a bus and after many missed opportunities and misunderstandings, he finally marries.
