Two convicts, Lavinia DeWitt and Zavier Nicholas wash up on the frontier shores of Ta'er Fraedinn. They are picked up on a caravan, which is then attacked by a clan of natives, the Fenrir. The two flee into the woods and are met with a wendigo. The Chieftain's son Fjorm saves the duo and brings them back to camp.

After spending a night with the Fenrir, Lavinia and Zavier are forced back onto the road. They come to Pennsicol, a colonial town, but they are met with guns. The two are told they are criminals because of the brands found on their bodies. The next day, the town is attacked by a gang of arsonists called the Scorchers. Zavier and Lavinia fight to defend Pennsicol, but when Lavinia sees the brand on the face of a beautiful woman named Ness, she abandons Zavier.

Lavinia discovers that the Scorchers are starving, and she plans a raid on Pennsicol to steal their food. This annoys the Scorcher's original gang leader, a man named Judge, who used to be in her gang before they were arrested.

After running a raid on the colonists, Lavinia begins to fall in love with her new team. She is confronted by Judge about her plans to take over the Scorchers and his team attempts to rape her, but she manages to escape the attack and murders him and his team in cold blood. However, the food Lavinia stole from her raid on the colonists is not enough.

Meanwhile, Zavier has to prove himself worthy of joining the Fenrir clan and faces the wilderness firsthand. Eventually he joins the Fenrir and begins to fall in love with the Shamaness Sabiira, but his love goes unrequited. Eventually, everything comes to a head when Lavinia raids the Fenrir camp on the day of the Fjorm's wedding.
