In1985, Tom Gilligan was 44 years old and completing his doctorate in psychology. He was separated from his two children, who were living in Toronto, 4600 kilometers to the East. . He wanted to rejoin them but had no money or income to pay for regular transportation. So he bought a used bike and a small tent, and then peddled across Canada in 44 days to rejoin them. This journey was undertaken at a time when communication was limited ( no cell phones, internet or computers.) and the journey was lonely and at times hazardous This memoir describes his adventures along the way, the people he met who helped him and how the the experience changed his life.
