The Last Minder is a social science fiction thriller set in the past and future that follows Benny Moloney through life with undeveloped superpowers. A youth filled with dreams of demons (alien visitation), a church that abandoned his family, and the murder/suicide of his father and mother. This leads him into WW2. There he discovers his powers at great personal cost, leaving him dejected. He ignores his later Vietnam recall in favor of killing the priest responsible for his pain. Afterwards, he rejects his superpowers. He later becomes a stage prop for warmongers in the late 90s after his pardon. He just wants to die in peace, left alone. A rogue alien scout, Majjen, has other plans in mind. He comes from an alien Cohort that moves from planet to planet. They begin by leading with gifts and training of the "Minders", the best of humanity. They make resistance obsolete so that after planets terraform to their needs, they occupy with little resistance. The scout has spent centuries searching for someone like Benny to fulfill his clandestine mission, to end his own race. Forced through time, Benny meets a twisted future Earth governed by alien plans for global tranquility. The trip damages his body and mind, though it kills most humans. With the help of his caretaker android, Jan-L, he realizes the truth. This future is extraordinarily hostile to the elderly. Euthanasia, laws, and policies seem geared around their forced death at 75. Enforced by the Earth Defense Force, no one escapes their fate. The aliens have manipulated history and religions to control people, but their own religion speaks of a great protector who rises at age 75 to destroy the Cohort. Most military leaders view this as a fairy tale. Majjen the scout interprets it literally—the minority opinion—and thus has brought Benny to the future at the right moment for him to battle his people. To survive, Benny must restore his mind and embrace his powers. He must realize they are not simply about destruction. He is more. An alien relic hidden in plain sight amplifies his powers to channel the Earth for the ultimate defense and, hopefully, his redemption.
