Humanity is extinct. Almost. The global population has been Devastated by Shivers—terrifying, shapeless creatures that latch on to their hosts and consume them over time. The last of civilization lives in the crumbling city of Atlas, where they subsist on processed insects and await their inevitable fate. Anthem is the city Exilist, tasked with trapping the Shivers as they strike and banishing them and their victims to the malevolent Deadlands outside the city walls. But he is ailing and destined to soon fall victim to his own Shiver. When the threat comes home, he is forced to travel into the Deadlands to find a method of taming the creatures. But the Deadlands will not give up its secrets without a fight, and no Atlas dweller has ever made it back alive. Can he find a remedy to save Atlas’s people and give hope to a new world? Or must he accept the indifferent cruelty of a doomed fate? To find out, Anthem must confront his own darkness, before humankind is forever lost to the monsters in our shadows.
