DJ SCOTT is a physician and graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota. His military career from 1988 to 2008 spanned the period from the Cold War to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As a reservist he specialized in cold weather operations having participated in exercises and operations in Norway, Iceland, Canada, and Alaska. For most of Scott's career he served with Marine Corps units.
In 2003, he was mobilized at the start of the Iraq War and served with several units, primarily the Marine Corps 1st Medical Battalion.
After retiring from the Navy, Scott returned to school where he earned a degree in History from the University of Michigan. He has studied and lectured on the history of U.S. nuclear policy.
In addition to Short Season and its sequel, Short Mission, he is also the author of Holmes Redux, a collection of mystery stories.
